Anyone have dimensions on a gold American Arts Round?

Hey eveyone, thanks for your help here...

I just bought a 1oz American Arts Commemorative "medallion", Grant Wood 1980 version.

My question is on the specs. as listed on onlygold...

The weight listed there is 34.55g, mine scales at 34.45 so I'm fine there.

But, their diameter is listed as 34.3mm, but mine is only 1.260 inch or 32mm
Their thickness is 2.41mm, but mine is 2.79mm..

So, why the big difference? Is my coin authentic?

Thanks!

Well, when I get my live.com $200 back, then I'll have $640 in this ounce of gold (at least I hope it's gold) ....so, if you want to get close to that then we'll talk!

34.55 grams is an oddball weight, assuming it is supposed to be a oz of gold, it implies 21 ct, or .875 pure. Whatever. The dimensions of your coin look right for the circumstance.

A 22 kt gold Eagle will weigh 33.9 grams, be 34.3 mm in diameter, and be 2.87 thick.

You can see that those dimensions are so close to yours that your coin must be of very similar density and therefore similar composition. Your coin is gold.

Tom, your right on....

american arts coins are 8/9ths gold 1/9ths copper which would be approx 21karat gold

Thanks for everyones help....
I'm sure it is legit, so I'm not going to worry about it. In fact, I'm going to go ahead & sell it on ebay, I just wanted to make sure I had the real thing.

But, if anyone has comes up with an answer as to why the specs are different than onlygold's please chime in....

I've got a Grant Wood squirreled away somewhere. If I dig it up, I'll measure it (weight, diameter, thickness) and post the results.

One thing I don't like about the series is the color of these medals looks too coppery - not a bit like real gold. If you try to sell to someone who doesn't know what it is, you might have a hard time convincing them that it is mostly gold. OTOH, the premium on those tends to be lower!

My specs are as follow,

34.5 grams, , 532 grains, oh poop on it, my Fisch tester likes it. The knock on these coins were the early ones were not marked with a gold weight and the purity of all issued was .900 instead of .9167 or .999. I buy when I can get a deal on them.:36_1_34:

How does $760 for one sound? I'll discount the shipping by $8 or so to make the price $960 exactly, then you get the $200 from live.com & you got it for $760... :yippee:
Here is the auction for it:

I got 34.6 oz., 32.0 mm diameter, 2.6 mm thick. My measuring devices are fairly crude, though.

I have that one,

I like that one because it came with the paperwork and box. Most of these coins will be in a plastic sleeve or capsule or maybe the styrofoam thingee.:565: I admire that guy.

Yes they look nice in the box, with papers and all. I have two of em up for sale right now. Decent deal too with 8% cash back.
